A cabaret singer poses on the winding staircase near her dressing room. One of her male fans has come, as he does every night, to hear her sing, to watch her body move to the music and to beg her to marry him. Every night she refuses. But tonight, she can't help but admire his persistence. She is tired of holding herself back. Standing on the staircase, bright purple light streaming in from the stage behind her, she pauses.
