Divini Rae: Justine Jolie, Luana Lani and myself shot this very kind of uniquely artistic Angels shoot. But an Angels shoot unlike any, I think, most people have ever seen before. I mean, the idea was so different. It's not just, oh, lovely angels. Here we are, right? No. It was angels with that human element of emotion and passion. Angels here on earth. As women, sometimes we're angels and sometimes we're devils, right? Okay, so angels can be good and bad. And this shows both sides to angels.

What started out as an idea to do a holiday-themed shoot for Mystique fans morphed into one of the most controversial and provocative photo shoots in Mystique history.

When Mystique asked photographer Mark Daughn to shoot a series of photos to celebrate Christmas, he immediately dismissed the cliched sexy Santa helpers, barely dressed models by the tree, and sexy girls in red lingerie you might expect as a holiday motif.

Instead, he decided to portray Angels in everyday life, with no limitations to political correctness, morality, or religion. He photographed a series of scenes on a white background in order to isolate the models. Fallen angels, bad girl angels, avenging angels, lesbian angels with religious icons, dead angels dripping in blood, and housewife angels (complete with broom and curlers) were just a few of the non-stereotypical scenes created.

Mark says the models really got into character and played the roles better than he expected. They made suggestions and suggested things he says he would have never thought of. When first published, the fan reaction was mixed: some loved it immensely, while others totally despised it, even going so far to call it blasphemous.
